Dr. R. Bruce Coye has practiced in Newport Beach since 1975, joining his practice with our office in 1984. A native of Glendale, Dr. Coye attended California State University at Long Beach, attaining his Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1967. He taught as a Graduate Teaching Instructor for another year before enterning Northwestern University Dental School.
He graduated from Northwestern in 1972 with honors, including the Clive Hadlow Award for Ourstanding achievement in Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics, and election to Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Returning to California, Dr. Coye served a one year General Practice Rotating Residency at the Brentwood V.A. Hospital in Los Angeles, followed by a two year residency in Prosthodontics at the Wadsworth V.A. Hospital. He received his Certification in Advanced Fixed Prosthodontics in 1975. Dr. Coye has received academic teaching appointments at Cal State Long Beach, Department of Biology and Botany; Northwestern University Dental School, Department of Hisotlogy, U.C.L.A. School of Dentistry, Clinical Instructor in Prosthodontics, and U.S.C. Dental School, Clinical Instructor.
Dr. Coye has lectured nationally and internationally on numerous subjects related to his specialty, including precision removalbe prosthodontics, implant prosthodontics, and complex restorative techniques. He has published numerous articles in national and international peer reviewed journals for dentistry, including his research during his residency program.
His activities in dental organizations include membership in the American Dental Association, the American College of Prosthodontists, the International College of Prosthodontists, the Newport Harbor Academy of Dentistry and the Osseointegration Study Club of Southern California, in addition to Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Coye is very active with committees of these organizations in addition to serving as a past President of the Orange County Dental Society, the Osseointegration Study Club of Southern California, and the American College of Prosthodontists, California Section. He recently completed a six year term as Trustee to the California Dental Association where he has served many years as a Delegate to the House. He has served as a Select Committee Chair to the American Dental Association. He is currently serving a six year term on the CDA Council on Scientific Sessions which is responsible for the two largest state dental meetings in country each year.
Dr. Coye donates service to the community as a very active member of the Kiwanis International, Costa Mesa, serving in many capacities including President in 1983 - 84.
Dr. Coye and his wife, Peggy, have three lovely children, one of whom is married. They appreciate outdoor activities, including camping, backpacking, water-skiing, snow-skiing, photography, fly fishing and saltwater fishing.
